Do you wish you could have more energy? That you had a bounce in your step all day? That you were the most radiantly alive person in the room?

High energy and enthusiasm not only help us enjoy life more, they’re also highly attractive traits in social settings. People who are full of mojo are magnetic because we want to be like them. Their energy is contagious.

Today, I want to tell you that it’s within your power to become such a person. To help you on that path, I’m going to share with you 5 powerful strategies you can use to feel more alive every day and to shine brighter in the world.

Energy

In a culture where coffee is guzzled by the liter and where new energy drinks are introduced every week, these strategies are healthy and sustainable ways to boost your energy levels and become the “life” of any social situation.

Strategy #1: Move Your Body in the Morning

Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, emotional, and mental states. ~Carol Welch

I used to feel like a zombie until I had my first cup of coffee of the day. I was grumpy, sluggish and out of it until the hot java hit my lips.

One day, it all changed.

That morning, I decided to do a quick 10-minute yoga session right after getting out of bed. I can’t remember what sparked the inspiration to do that, but what I remember is that by the time I walked into the kitchen, I felt so incredibly good that I opted to skip my morning coffee. I knew I was on to something!

If you want to boost your energy in the morning, get in the habit of moving your body around for at least 5 minutes once you get out of bed. Do this with a quick yoga routine (here’s the one I use), a short run around your block or a few push-ups/sit-ups/jumping jacks. If you’re not into that, why not simply pop on a good song and dance for 5 minutes?

Guaranteed you’ll feel WAY better than you did before you started. This will set you up for a great day of energy and awesomeness.

Strategy #2: Take a Cold Shower

Water is the driving force of all nature. ~Leonardo Da Vinci

Aaaah cold showers. So challenging, yet so awesome. I first got the idea a few month ago, when I read something called “The 30-Day Cold Shower Challenge”.

The challenge is simple: take a cold shower every day for 30 days. I took on the challenge, and believe me, it was a wild ride. But I’ve now taken more than 200 cold showers, and can assure you, they’re one of THE BEST ways to naturally raise your energy levels.

If you’re not convinced, think back to the last time you jumped into a cold lake/ocean. How invigorating was it? With Cold Showers, you have the power to feel like that every day!

Bonus: cold showers are also incredibly good for your health.

Strategy #3: Have The Drink of Gods

Cacao beans were so revered by the Aztecs & the Mayans that they were used instead of gold as money ~David Wolfe

People say that “America runs on coffee” but I believe there exist MUCH better hot drink alternatives to boost your energy and health levels.

CocoaOne of them is The Drink of Gods. Made of Raw Cacao Powder, cinnamon, warm water (80C/185F degrees) and a few drops of stevia, this drink which you can easily prepare will make you feel INCREDIBLE.

Cacao, the true, unprocessed “chocolate” bean, is considered by many as the greatest food in the world. It’s the food with the highest antioxidant content in the world (2x higher than Acai berries, 8x higher than Goji berries, and about 15x higher than red wine & green tea), it has the highest levels of muscle-relaxing magnesium, and it’s super high in iron, chromium, manganese and zinc.

But what makes cacao extraordinary is its unique neuro-enhancing properties. It contains PEA (same feel-good compound our body produces when we fall in love), anadamide (also known as the “bliss” chemical), tryptophan (pre-cursor to serotonin) and serotonin itself. It also contains theobromine, a (milder) chemical relative of caffeine. All this results in a slightly euphoric yet focused state that is very enjoyable.

No wonder “Cacao”, which literally means “Food of Gods”& is considered to be the #1 superfood in the world by health expert David Wolfe.

Cinnamon is added to the mix not only because of its good taste, but because it helps increase the cacao’s absorption rate. Stevia, the “healthy sweetener” is a perfect complement to The Drink of Gods to give it that truly divine taste.

Drink one of these before heading out to a social event and you’ll be feeling radiantly alive the whole time you’re there!

Strategy #4 Develop Optimal Breathing

There is one way of breathing that is shameful and constricted. Then, there’s another way: a breath of love that takes you all the way to infinity. ~Rumi

Did you know that most of us, by default, tend to breathe in a sub-optimal way? It’s true: we tend to take shallow, rapid breaths, especially in times of stress or fear.

This is too bad because oxygen is the ultimate source of nutrition for the human body. We can go days without water and weeks without food, but a few minutes without oxygen and it’s game over.

To give yourself an oxygen-induced boost in energy, try taking a few diaphragmatic breaths every hour.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Inhale from your belly and chest for 4 seconds. Really fill up your lungs with as much oxygen as you can.
  2. Hold your breathe for 10-15 seconds. Let all the oxygen enter your bloodstream and feed every cell of your body.
  3. Exhale slowly and completely. Relax your whole body as you do this.

Try one right now. I guarantee you’ll feel an immediate difference in your levels of energy and mental clarity.
Whenever you’re in a social setting and need a quick boost of focus, take a few of those. No one will notice it, but you’ll feel the difference, I guarantee you.

Strategy #5: Rock Your Power Move

Motion creates emotion! ~Tony Robbins

Have you ever noticed how most athletes have a ritual move before their event? You might recall the great swimmer Michael Phelps in Beijing, stepping on the blocks, clapping his hands in front, then all the way behind his back, every time right before the race started. That’s one of Phelps’ Power Moves. It helps him get energized, pumped up, and in the zone.

You can use the same concept to condition yourself to feel energetic whenever you want, using your “Power Move”. I learned this from Tony Robbins, and it really works.

Here’s how you do it:

First, you have to pick your power move. It can be jumping on the spot, clapping your hands, snapping your fingers, etc. Choose something that feels right.

Second, you need to get ‘in state’. That means get activated, energized, enthused, etc. You can jump around, or use music or motivational videos to make yourself feel good.

Third, once you’re in state, you need to do your power move again and again. You want to start conditioning yourself so that in your mind the Power Move = High Energy State.

Fourth, over the next few days, whenever you’re feeling good, do your power move. Really drill it into your system that this move is associated with high energy.

Eventually, whenever you’re feeling low on energy, you’ll be able to use your Power Move and get yourself back in state. You’ll have conditioned yourself to it.

Whenever I’m getting ready to perform or to enter a social setting where I want to shine at my brightest, I always rock my power move beforehand (jumping on the spot while shaking out my arms).

Remember, people immediately assess us and feel our vibe when we enter a room, so it’s critical to be in an optimal state when we do so!

Whether you dream of becoming a social magnet or simply living your life to the fullest, these simple strategies will help you get there. They’re inexpensive, easy to do, and will make you feel AWESOME.

But remember, reading about them won’t make a difference. It’s applying these strategies that will!

Why not pick one right now and commit to trying it tomorrow?

Morning Exercise, Cold Shower, The Drink of Gods, Optimal Breathing or Your Power Move… Which one will it be?

Have a rockin’ day!

  1. Thanks for publishing this Brian, really appreciate it! Keep on inspiring, shining bright and living to the fullest!

    PS Formatting looks great!

  2. Sounds like some great tips!, Where would I get all the drink of the gods ingredients? or does it come pre mixed?

  3. Phil The post was great. I am going to try the “Drink of the Gods” tomorrow morning. I love that you shared insight into the nutrition of cacao as I have recently really tried to start getting superfoods into my diet. The cold showers are a constant battle but I really enjoy them every morning. It started as an idea to train my discipline but I quickly realized that cold showers allow me to have soooo much energy in the morning. I actually love the rush of staying in the shower while I “find” the warmth in the seemingly glacier fed water. Great to hear another perspective on them 🙂 Thanks for the post!
